I've been running Mulberry 4.0.8 on MacOS 10.6.8 (at home) and 10.9.? at
work with no problems. I'm considering upgrading to Yosemite. Has anybody
got any reports of success or failure with this?

Thanks!

Version 4.0.8 I never tried on Yosemite. My own builds (based on some
already not so recent snapshot from the git) [1] have so far worked -
apart from the fact that consistently every time you finish the
program it will crash (however after saving data, so nothing is lost).
As I understand, the same has happened to everyone here, also using
different builds, it seems to be some general library-level
incompatibility.

I haven't used mulberry heavily in the last years since the IT
infrastructure I have to use at work will not work with it. From my
few experiments I'd say that currently it *still* works, but there is
a real danger that at some point it will no longer work, since the
libraries and APIs mulberry is based on have been deprecated quite
some time ago.

Cheers,

Martin

At one point I used to get crashes on exit but that stop for me quite a
while ago. However, I do build out of my branch with the latest tools etc
and there have been some changes there that others might not have sync'd,
so it is possible this problem has been fixed as a side-effect of some
other change.

That would certainly be good news.

Since I had contributed some work in my branch (see also my github
repos [1]), I'd love to see my stuff (autoconf-based build, some
bugfixes) merged into the main branch. Unfortunately due to the
environment I have to deal with at work I currently don't use Mulberry
on a regular basis and therefore find less time maintaining that code
(actually, I don't have a working build environment for both OSX and
Linux at the moment).

Cheers,

Martin

After all the latest change in the SVN repository in v4.1d1 branch is from
Feb 2015.
But the lates changes in the GIT repository is from July 2012. I would be
some effort to get it in sync again.
I cherry-picked Cyrus' changes last Friday and pushed the result,
though it will most probably not build without any changes.
For the time being I will most likely not be able to invest any more
time, but maybe somebody wants to take it from there?

Cheers,

Martin

I'm certainly willing to give it a try. For future reference: a necessary
condition to compile Mulberry with current versions of Xcode is to have the
old SDKs available. A relatively easy way to manage them is this script:

Martin, could you point me to the repository you have been using? Sorry,
I've lost track :-)

Take a look at everything that has the name "mulberry" in its name
here: https://github.com/mbert?tab=repositories
The reason for having this collection of repos are the svn-externals
that I represent as git submodules.

Cheers,

Martin

hi steve,

for my part i have no "real" problems with mulberry 4.0.8 on yosemite.
upgraded from mountain lion about four months ago, and it works fine. i
use it daily as my main email application at work.

the only thing that happens sometimes: after work i can't quit it
correctly (just nothing happens when i try) but have to use the "force
quit" function in activity monitor. but that's about it; on mountain
lion i had the same phenomenon more often and in addition mulberry
often crashed; that has stopped... i guess; actually i can't say, if it
crashed in those four months or not, so i don't dare to say it stopped
completely ;)

i'm running an "original" 4.0.8 build (02/2007) from mulberrymail.com
installation since it was released back then and use that same
installation through all the upgrades of the os beneath from leopard to
snow leopard to mountain lion to yosemite.

i don't use "special" stuff in mulberry like rules etc., just "basic"
imap, and that works fine and _fast_ :)

one note on retina displays: my new macbook pro 13" has a 2560x1600
resolution, and the fonts in mulberry look a bit blurry, which is for
me personally still ok enough to not switch to another email
application.

Thanks all - you've given me reasonable confidence about trying this.
Regarding the failure on exit, I get that now very often - when I quit
Mulberry if often tells me that it died unexpectedly. Doesn't seem to cause
any problems though.

Yes I agree, it runs well enough to not look at doing mail with any other program.
