hey there,

has anybody already tested, if mulberry 4.0.8 is running properly on
mac os x mavericks? currently i'm on mountain lion, and mulberry is
working fine, and i don't want to risk a non-working mailer by
upgrading to mavericks...

thx a lot for your feedback :)

Hi lyrabee,

I'm using a slightly newer developer build, and that's working fine. I
would assume that 4.0.8 works as well.

I've been using Mulberry on Mavericks for three days now without any
problem.

Interesting that others aren’t seeing issues…

Neither 4.0.8 nor Martin’s newer binary build (4.1.0a3) seem to be able to find the ‘Mulberry Prefs’ file - I need to launch the prefs file itself. And in both cases, one of my mail accounts is missing upon launch (same prefs file and location as runs fine under Mountain Lion).

4.0.8 crashes upon quit, every time. Martin’s does not. I have not attempted to build myself using OS-current libraries, and free time is such that I am unlikely to delve into that in anything resembling immediate future.

None of that happen in my case (I use an unadulterated 4.0.8, now on
Mavericks). However, what all this tells me is that the time is coming,
alas, when I shall have to migrate from Mulberry to something else. I am
not a programmer of any kind, and if I cannot get a newer version I need to
move to some other email client before my emails become inaccessible as the
OS is further updated.

As long as you are using IMAP, your emails will be on the server, quite accessible to any other IMAP client should the day come when Mulberry is compost.

And what's more if your server is IMAP then you can use multiple different clients at the same time - whether you have several clients on one machine, or spread across multiple different devices.

That's what I do (sadly). Mail.app for everyday usage, and cranky but powerful
Mulberry for stuff Mail.app does not do well (e.g. large mailing lists).

For various (perhaps silly) reasons I use it mainly with POP. So all my
accumulated emails from 1996 onwards are sitting in my Mulberry folder on
my computer - or actually mirrored on several, but same thing. I probably
need to re-think my whole email strategy!

Yes.

You have an urgent need to copy your archived email to a safe place that supports client-independent access protocols. If you open an IMAP account on such a server, it's trivial to use Mulberry to copy all of your archives there.

I upgraded to Mavericks on Monday. Since then I've been using my
build from July 27, 2012 [1] without any issues. My preferences
reside on '~/Library//Preferences/Mulberry Prefs' and
'~/Library//Saved Application State/com.mulberrymail.mulberry.savedState'
respectively. I have an IMAP-only setup.

Cheers,

In my experie4nce to date Mulberry works as well on Yosemite as it did on
Mavericks; which means it works OK, but there are bugs - though none that
are completely critical. One thing that seems to have improved oddly enough
is the tendency of Mulberry to crash on quitting (which was kind of
annoying but didn't make much practical difference).

Alas, I am coming to the point where I shall have to abandon Mulberry, as
the absence of a newer version is making it too risky to continue - and the
absence of HTML capability is making it impossible to read many of the
emails I get (though I HATE formatted emails). I shall really regret
leaving Mulberry however. It is the best email client I have ever used. And
I can't work out what to migrate to, not least because I can't find a
client that handles MIME has efficiently.

Oh well :(

hey there,

sooo, i'm on yosemite for a day now, and first i thought everything was
fine, but now i had to realize that the "sign" button which adds the
signature won't do anything. i klick, but no signature is inserted.

does anybody know a fix, or is this finally "it" for me as i depend on
signatures at work...

i'm still running on the original 4.0.8 build from 2007 which is
available here: http://www.mulberrymail.com/download.shtml

last year i've downloaded martin dietze's build
Mulberry-app-MacOSX10.6-Release-20120727 from here:
http://www.the-little-red-haired-girl.org/pub/mulberry/ but never
installed it ("never change a running system").

if i installed that, might there be a chance that inserting signatures
via "sign" button might work again?

if so: can i just install martin's build right over my current
installation?

thx a lot in advance! :)

What type of security are you using for the signature? GPG or S/MIME (look
in the Security preferences panel and check the popup there).

hi cyrus,

my "preferred plugin" is currently "pgp - using pgp plugin (not
loaded)"; there's also available "gpg - using pgp plugin (not loaded)"
and "s/mime".

whatever setting i choose. the result is the same: no signature via
button. or would i have to quit mulberry and launch it again to take
effect for the change?

meanwhile i tried the setting to append the signature automatically
when opening a draft, and that works. might be a "workaround", but i'd
prefer the manual inserting...

Were you using GPG before? If so, chances are the OS upgrade messed with
the existing GPG install and you will need to reinstall the GPG tools:

First go to the GPGPreferences panel in the OS Sytem Preferences and verify
that you have a default key properly setup. If not you will need to find
out where your original keys were and get those into the new GPG install.
If the default key is present, then in Mulberry go check the main Identity
that you use in the preferences and look at the Security panel there and
verify it is set for the default key.

hi cyrus,

hmmm, i feel like a noob as i have no clue how to find possible
original keys as i'm not sure that i ever had some. can i just create a
new one following the instructions here:

?

is the "sign" button in a draft connected to encryption stuff? because
when i check e.g. my default identity's settings in "options" i have
"signature" active and in "security" there's nothing active at all...

i hope we don't mean different kinds of "signing"... i "just" want to
insert signatures to my drafts like

hi cyrus,

yeah, i know that, and for whatever reason until yosemite it worked to
insert a signature via the "sign" button in a draft, but i just checked
out that i also can insert the signature via menu->draft->insert
signature or shift+cmd+s

i'll see what will be more convenient for me - doing it via menu,

want it in that mail...

hi cyrus,

unbelievable but true: i kind of mixed up the button "sign" with the
button "insert sig" as the button "insert sig" just wasn't there
anymore after my upgrade to yosemite.

this morning i had to check something on my old mountain lion system
and realized that the button "insert sig" has been right from the
button "encrypt"... and after being back on yosemite and doing a right
click in the button bar i saw "add button" and there i saw "insert
signature" and... tadaaa... the button was there again.
either i somehow had managed to remove it from the bar without
realizing it or it happend somehow because of the os update.

anyways, my "insert sig" button is there again, i'm happy and still
going with mulberry :)

being now on mulberry 4.0.8 on mac os x el capitan 10.11.1 and
before that on yosemite 10.10.5 for quite a while now emails of
some senders aren't displayed with either the sender's respective
email address or the receiver's respective email address anymore
"To:" of that specific sender.
the problem only exists in mulberry. with mail.app, thunderbird and
our company's webmail the email addresses are displayed correctly.
I'm not sure what his going on there, but it would help if you gave
an example. I think the best way would be if you choose "Raw

"Formatted". Then look for the line that starts with "From: " and
copy that.
hi sebastian,
actually i'm not quite sure where the "example-from" is supposed to

OK, my guess is that the problem results from the brackets after the

yeah, but thx for looking into it anyways :)

for the others: in case you wonder to which mail sebastian is replying
to: my original reply included screenshots, and it still awaits
moderation to get through to the list... ;)

in our company we use dovecot 2.2.9 . as the bug described in the link
was fixed in 1.0 this should not be the problem; it seems it is on the
senders's side (see mail from sebastian).
I mention it because I googled for "@MISSING_DOMAIN" and the only hits I
got were from the dovecot bug. That string does NOT appear in the
Mulberry source code. Perhaps some other software is injecting it, as well.
